Tennis Shoes
One Christmas eve, another nonprofit came by my office and dropped dozens of little pieces of paper on my desk. She said, “We can’t take care of these kids. Maybe you can.” When she was gone. I picked up each piece of paper. One boy wanted a pair of tennis shoes. Another wanted a basketball. Each child had written one thing he or she wanted for Christmas. I prayed. I didn’t know how I could go home and enjoy Christmas with my family if all these kids weren’t going to get the one thing they asked for. I asked God to help me. I looked up and a young man was standing in the doorway. He introduced himself saying he was with Columbus Avenue Baptist Church. He said we had talked on the phone so much, he just wanted to come by and meet me and see if there was anything he could do for us. I showed him my pieces of paper and he said, “we can do this”.
