License to Operate
In the spring of 2000, I got a letter telling me that the adult day center in Waco would be closing in June. I prayed God would not ask us to do that because I thought we had more than we could say grace over. I asked friends to pray but by the end of the day…..before they all came back to me and said ‘yes, I believe God is calling you to do this’, I knew. I knew God wanted us to do it and I knew it would be okay.
I talked to Julia Long, the director of the adult day care program, and she said, “if you do this, it will be an answer to prayer.” After presenting it to our board and getting approval, I submitted the application to the Health & Human Services Commission in Austin. I didn’t know until years later that it takes a very long time to get a license to operate a Day Activities and Health Services Center in Texas (adult day care). I learned that when my application was received in Austin, the person who received it filled in her part and got in her car and drove it to the next person, who filled out her part and drove it to the next person. Hillcrest closed their Adult Day Care Center on Friday, June 9th, we received our license on Saturday, June 10th and we opened our Adult Day Center on Monday, June 12th.
