Our 16th Annual No Benefit-Benefit raised $46,402 for our work.
Each year we first ask people to sponsor our No Benefit Benefit and then we send a mailing to thousands of people inviting them to help with this work. That letter lists all our sponsors.
This is the letter we are sent this year to ask people to sponsor our No Benefit Benefit:
Dear Friend:
Her husband had worked for the Army Corp of Engineers and they had lived in many places while he built dams in Texas. Both their children (a boy and a girl) died long ago. She had been so excited to learn about the miracle of the new polio vaccine that when told to, she gladly lined her children up to be vaccinated. Within two weeks, they were both dead. She never had more children, so, when her husband died, this tiny widow had no one. That’s when people began exploiting her. ‘Friends’ asked for money and she gave them what she could. She paid bills for them. Little by little all her treasures (even her husband’s war medals) disappeared and by the time we became her guardian all she had left was one box of pictures and a few articles of clothing. She had lost everything, but she didn’t let it defeat her. She even laughed because she had 10 earrings left but not one matched pair. We found her a new home and even though we were working to make sure she was safe, secure, comfortable and happy, she was always the one making sure everyone around her was happy and smiling. We’re blessed we even got to know this beautiful, feisty woman.
Every day we are asked to help more people and we feel so blessed we’ve been able to continue to say ‘yes’ to those who need our help.
