We are Looking for Donations to Share the Heat

This year Friends for Life, Meals & Wheels, the Aging and Disability Resource Center of the Heart of Texas, Caritas, Heart of Texas 2-1-1, Enrich Seniors and Act Locally Waco teamed up once again to get ahead of this challenge of cold homes through their annual Share the Heat campaign. Based on last year’s requests, the group estimated that there would be a need to purchase 300 heaters.  The Heart of Texas ADRC identified a reasonably priced heater that included the appropriate safety features.  Each heater cost $20.

The “Share the Heat” group is turning to the community to raise the anticipated $3100 needed for the remaining 155 heaters.  Almost all the 145 heaters purchased have been distributed and more donations are required to provide heaters to all the seniors who need them.

We would like to recognize Regent Care Center, Home Instead Senior Care, Right at Home, and Day Spring Baptist Church along with many individuals for donating to our Share the Heat heater drive. Your generosity is greatly appreciated!

Friends for Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving delivery resizedOn Thanksgiving morning, volunteers signed up and took their posts to prepare, assemble and deliver dinners to 450 shut-ins, elderly and people who needed help. This is an annual tradition for families and caring individuals. We had enough donated food left over, volunteers and staff fed 75 homeless people in downtown Waco.! We thank those who donated food and all the volunteers who made this possible!
